My name is Catherine Slater, and this is my story…

Having come of age in the 60’s and 70’s with an academic foundation in Biology and Law, my generation heard the warning bells sounding and many of us were rattling the cages of politics to try and get them to do something about it!

One step forward, two steps back… We fought against CFC’s and styrofoam while business as usual continued to push carbon into our atmosphere and the ecological cycles that had been around for millennia began to break down into an human created extinction level event.

In many ways we are already too late, but as a child of the environmental movement and as a biologist and a legal JD, I am very well suited to continue to fight the good fight and to bring knowledge from the past to bear on what is happening in the present to try and stem the tide of future damage that threatens us. From Beach Clean-ups to Influencing politicians on the benefits of smart growth and ecological responsibility, I have always lived on the front line of this story.

It is now my pleasure to share with you The Singing Whale. A metaphor as to the plight of our planet where the whale is our caged canary in the ocean that is ever growing with pollution.  Her song represents the ending of an ecological era as she deals with the pain of failed births and lost calves… But, it is not over till the Fat Whale Sings her last song!

We must make wise choices to stem the tide of this ecological collapse and to bring a brighter future to our children, grandchildren and descendants beyond!

To that end this webpage endeavors to look at the stories of the day and to bring them into an environmental focus.  To look at how we all exist and strategize on ways to exist better and for longer!

Thank you for joining me in this journey!

Sincerely,

Catherine Slater
